Mushtaidi Garden is one of the oldest gardens in Tbilisi. It was founded in the early 19th century. The garden was planted by Mir Feteaga Seyid Tavriz, a fugitive from Iran, who was the religious leader of the Iranian Shiites in Azerbaijan, Mujtahid. He was chosen to settle in Tbilisi because of his Georgian wife. His wife is buried in the same garden. From 1853 the garden became the property of the Treasury, and public walks, exhibitions, and performances were systematically organized here. In 1887, under the leadership of the naturalist Nikoloz Shavrov, the Caucasus Silkworm Station was established on the territory of the garden. Much of the complex has been destroyed over time, with the main building now housed in the Silk Museum. It has the status of a monument of culture of national importance. In 1935, the world’s first children’s railway was launched. There was a theater, an open stage, a café-restaurant in the garden, and in addition to the children’s railway, there were various attractions. Mushtaidi Garden is still relevant today. A well-appointed and varied garden is a great place for people of all ages to relax and have fun.
